Professional Learning, New Perspectives on Change and Loss
Many children and young people encounter stressful change and loss events, sometimes defined as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). For example children and young people may live in homes where parents or carers are emotionally absent from their lives, family members are experiencing addiction, or family relationships have broken down.
Change and loss can impact negatively on children’s ability to engage in learning, however schools and school staff can mitigate the impact of change and loss through whole class discussion around strategies to manage the challenge that change and loss can bring.
